Update 1/14/11

Hello everyone. Welcome to our blog for Pam and Larry Updates. We have created this blog to keep you all up-to-date on their progress. Let us start by saying, things are looking good! As you all know, we are VERY lucky!  It was only 5 very long days ago that we heard the news of the accident. The three of us immediately pulled together and got a lot accomplished (getting mom and dad to the same hospital in Phoenix) in a VERY short amount of time (36 hours to be exact!).

Mom and Dad are being well taken care of, not only by the nurses and doctors at Mayo, but also by us. Mom's surgery was very successful and the doctor is hopeful that with some intensive hand therapy that she will regain function and strength in the right arm and hand - so she can go back to baking that wonderful bread we all love! She will remain at Mayo through the weekend so they can monitor her progress and give her the start of her therapy. We do not know when she will be released but will let you know the second we know.

Dad is doing better and better every day - for those that have seen the photos of the accident, his side of the car was very badly damaged and we are EXTREMELY lucky he is with us and in such good shape today. Today he will be transfered to Healthsouth, a rehabilitation center in Scottsdale (just 2 minutes from Martin and I) for a few days for Phyisical Therapy and rest so he can regain his strength.

Mom and Dad will both stay with a very close friend for a few weeks when they are both out of the hospital and rehab so that we can finalized a more permanant living location for them while they are here. We will also keep you posted on these specifics.

We will be signing in on a daily (or sometimes hourly basis as needed) to update this blog so you can all rest easy. On this blog you can also "follow" it so you will be alerted when new posts are made and you can "comment" on it so if you have any questions for us or wishes you want us to pass along to Pam and Larry, please post a comment. The goal of this blog is to keep you all well informed and up to date throughout this long road to recovery that they both face - the key word there being recovery :).  As you know, they will need their rest to regain their strength so we ask that you check this blog before calling either of them as we want to give them the rest they need right now. It is our hope that when they are both feeling better they too will post to this blog - telling you all how they are feeling, what they are feeling and most importantly, tell you all how much they love you.

Thank you all for your support through this trying yet hopeful week - we all have a lot to be thankful for and we count our blessings each and every day.

On a side note, I (Corey) have not yet had the privledge of meeting you all and hope that you will get to know me a little through my blog posts. I want you to see me as an extension of Martin and Amanda and if at any time you cannot get a hold of one of them - you can always reach out to me. My cell phone number is 602-561-5702 or you can send me an email at coreyalyse@yahoo.com. I look forward to meeting you all in the future and getting to know you through this blog and in person one day soon.

We will keep you updated as we have updates.

Love,
Corey, Martin and Amanda

  1. We have come to count on Corey - she is too humble to admit that she was the one that conceived and created this blog!!!

    Brilliant!

1200hrs today roughly I spoke to Dad he is plugging along - he has quite a bit of pain but despite that is working with therapy. Mom wasn't available likely doing therapy - she may come to a point that she can't decide if the occupational hand therapists are helpful or sadistic...

Again as Corey stated we are so very lucky... We appreciate all your love and support... We are blessed doubly to have Mom and Dad here with us and family and friends fiercely loyal and supportive...

Please pass on the blog address we are counting on viral spread as we don't have everyone's email addresses, or know if you text message...

    Peace and Love -A
