Long overdue update 1/30/11

Hi all. Sorry for the long lull in updates. Things are starting to go back to a bit of normalcy so there has been a lot to catch up on hence the lull.

Mom and dad are both out of the hospital and together again! They have moved into an assisted living facility that we are trying to make feel as much like home as possible. They are both improving everyday!

Yesterday Martin and I took them out separately to do some errands - Martin with dad, me with mom. Then we met up for a nice lunch at Gordan Biersch. It was very nice and again felt like normal was coming back. We got them a coffee pot afterward so they could have coffee whenever thet want like they are able to do back in Creede.

Amanda is going over today and Martin and I will go after work tomorrow to bring them a TV for their bedroom.

Your cards have been received and are very appreciated - definitely putting smiles on their faces. Thanks to all!

That's all for today. We will update with more soon. Just know that they are doing well and continue to get better and better everyday! Hard to believe that they are both doing so well just three weeks after the accident. A true miracle. And your prayers have helped them every day! Keep them coming!

Thanks!

Great News - Update 1/20/11

Hi all. Great news - they took mom in for her last "surgery" and ended up not having to put her out and do anything to her!!!  This is great news - she's very happy about it! She'll be out on Saturday!

We are going to have dinner with Dad tonight - Amanda says he's doing well and might be out sooner than anticipated. We'll keep you posted on that.

Keep those good thoughts coming our way as they are working!!

Thanks!
Corey

Update 1/19/11

Hi all!

Sorry I didn't post last evening, there really wasn't anything to post :).  Mom is doing great - she will go in for another "surgery" (really just to look at everything and clean it up) tomorrow and then she will be getting discharged from Mayo on Saturday. She will stay with her friend Jacqui for a few days and then come to stay with Martin and me until dad gets out of the Rehab Hospital.

Dad is doing well - Martin took him a pizza last night - bet that tasted so good to him!! He is doing well and continues to get stronger every day.

I am going over to see Mom tonight and Amanda will be going over to see Dad - we are dividing and conquering these days :).

That's really all I have to update right now. We continue to count our blessings each and every day and pray for their speedy recovery.

I will post an update tomorrow after mom's surgery.

Thanks all!
Corey

Update 1/17/11

Hi everyone. Tonights update. Mom is doing great! They went back in to continue to watch for infection and keep it clean so it will heal. Looks like they will do this a couple more times before she is out. Next time will be Thursday. Even with all they are trying to do to torture her, she is having none of it ! Not allowing them to get her down! I talked with her for a while tonight and she sounded so great. And just to think...all of this is only one week old now. Crazy!

I did not get to see Dad today but Amanda was over there and said he is also doing well. I will get over there later this week to see him. Martin is going over tomorrow to bring him some more clothes.

Keep those prayers coming - they are working!!

Latest Update 1/16/11

Hi all. Today has been a good day. We went over to see mom this morning and she was having her lunch and feeling much better. We then went over to take lunch to dad and were there when the new Dr. came to check him out. Dad will get a physical therapy schedule that will more than likely mean that after his therapy every day he will be very tired. But it will also mean that he will be getting stronger every day as well. They expect that he will be in the rehab hospital for about 3 weeks.

Mom is going back in to surgery tomorrow afternoon - and I will use surgery lightly as they are really going back in to check to make sure they got all the infection out. She has requested cookies so I will bake her some for after her surgery. She may be out as early as Friday but we will know a more definite time later in the week.

I will post another update tomorrow after mom gets out of surgery.

Love to all,
Corey

Update 1/15

Good morning all. Today's update - Mom went into surgery this morning as they found an infection in her arm - she is out and the infection wasn't deep which is good news. She is now resting comfortably.

Dad is doing well today and will be moved to Healthsouth Rehab center this afternoon. Last night he said he may be up for calling you all soon.

Every day they improve - which is a great thing.

Until the next update,
Corey

Update 1/14/11

Hello everyone. Welcome to our blog for Pam and Larry Updates. We have created this blog to keep you all up-to-date on their progress. Let us start by saying, things are looking good! As you all know, we are VERY lucky!  It was only 5 very long days ago that we heard the news of the accident. The three of us immediately pulled together and got a lot accomplished (getting mom and dad to the same hospital in Phoenix) in a VERY short amount of time (36 hours to be exact!).

Mom and Dad are being well taken care of, not only by the nurses and doctors at Mayo, but also by us. Mom's surgery was very successful and the doctor is hopeful that with some intensive hand therapy that she will regain function and strength in the right arm and hand - so she can go back to baking that wonderful bread we all love! She will remain at Mayo through the weekend so they can monitor her progress and give her the start of her therapy. We do not know when she will be released but will let you know the second we know.

Dad is doing better and better every day - for those that have seen the photos of the accident, his side of the car was very badly damaged and we are EXTREMELY lucky he is with us and in such good shape today. Today he will be transfered to Healthsouth, a rehabilitation center in Scottsdale (just 2 minutes from Martin and I) for a few days for Phyisical Therapy and rest so he can regain his strength.

Mom and Dad will both stay with a very close friend for a few weeks when they are both out of the hospital and rehab so that we can finalized a more permanant living location for them while they are here. We will also keep you posted on these specifics.

We will be signing in on a daily (or sometimes hourly basis as needed) to update this blog so you can all rest easy. On this blog you can also "follow" it so you will be alerted when new posts are made and you can "comment" on it so if you have any questions for us or wishes you want us to pass along to Pam and Larry, please post a comment. The goal of this blog is to keep you all well informed and up to date throughout this long road to recovery that they both face - the key word there being recovery :).  As you know, they will need their rest to regain their strength so we ask that you check this blog before calling either of them as we want to give them the rest they need right now. It is our hope that when they are both feeling better they too will post to this blog - telling you all how they are feeling, what they are feeling and most importantly, tell you all how much they love you.

Thank you all for your support through this trying yet hopeful week - we all have a lot to be thankful for and we count our blessings each and every day.

On a side note, I (Corey) have not yet had the privledge of meeting you all and hope that you will get to know me a little through my blog posts. I want you to see me as an extension of Martin and Amanda and if at any time you cannot get a hold of one of them - you can always reach out to me. My cell phone number is 602-561-5702 or you can send me an email at coreyalyse@yahoo.com. I look forward to meeting you all in the future and getting to know you through this blog and in person one day soon.

We will keep you updated as we have updates.

Love,
Corey, Martin and Amanda
